# Do I need a course to become an Arizona notary?

No. Arizona requires an **exam**, not a course: 45 multiple-choice questions, 60 minutes, 80% to pass, required since July 1, 2025 for every new commission and renewal (A.R.S. § 41-270). The state designates no official trainer and endorses no training company, so no course — ours included — is “state-approved.” A course is preparation. If you’re disciplined, the free Reference Manual at azsos.gov can carry you; our course exists to add structure, full coverage, and timed simulation. Start with the [free 24-question practice test](https://aznotaryclass.com/free-arizona-notary-practice-test/) to see where you stand.
