# How does SB 1479 change my daily practice?

Effective September 12, 2026, you must record the signer’s **right thumbprint** in your journal for deeds, quitclaim deeds, deeds of trust, other documents affecting real property, and powers of attorney (A.R.S. § 41-254(C)). For every other notarization, the manual’s journal-entry rules apply as before. The current manual (October 2026 edition), which the exam draws from, now lists the right thumbprint as a required entry for those documents, with exceptions flagged on its page 52, so know both the rule and when it doesn’t apply. The complete breakdown, including what counts as a real-property document: [SB 1479, explained](https://aznotaryclass.com/sb-1479-thumbprint-rule-explained/).
