# How does the Arizona notary exam work since July 1, 2025?

Every new commission applicant and every renewing notary must pass the exam **before** filing the application. The format: 45 multiple-choice questions drawn from the October 2026 Reference Manual, 60-minute time limit, 80% passing score (36 of 45 correct), open book with the manual built into the exam interface. Your passing score is valid 90 days. Registration runs through Pearson VUE ($35); see [the transition explained](https://aznotaryclass.com/prometric-vs-pearson-vue-az-notary-exam/) and register only through azsos.gov’s current links.
