Effective September 12, 2026, you must record the signer’s right thumbprint in your journal for deeds, quitclaim deeds, deeds of trust, other documents affecting real property, and powers of attorney (A.R.S. § 41-254(C)). For every other notarization, the manual’s journal-entry rules apply as before. The current manual (October 2026 edition), which the exam draws from, now lists the right thumbprint as a required entry for those documents, with exceptions flagged on its page 52, so know both the rule and when it doesn’t apply. The complete breakdown, including what counts as a real-property document: SB 1479, explained.
